We have had a fantastic first seven days of school.  Much of our time has been spent establishing expectations and routines, from arriving in the morning to eating lunch in the cafeteria, and traveling through the school to see the various special teachers.  Your children have absorbed a lot of information in a very short period of time and have shown a remarkable amount of growth this past week.

In the classroom we have spent a lot of time looking at and comparing names, including first sounds and the number of letters in our names.

During our math time we have been exploring math materials and getting used to the format of a brief whole class lesson, followed by rotating through math stations in smaller groups.

We have been working on telling stories using pictures and letters or words we know.  The entire group has been deeply engaged during this time, with lots of stories to share!

We have also had ample time playing both in the classroom and on the playground, both of which provide great practice interacting with classmates in a kind and respectful way as we navigate being part of a larger group.

We ended the week by reading with 3rd and 4th grade learning buddies, who we will meet with every Friday, and having popsicles on the playground to celebrate a very successful start to the new school year!
