This week, we continued our conversation about similarities among children around the world by reading the book To Be a Kid by Maya Ajmara. This book, which is illustrated with photographs of children from around the world, emphasizes the commonalities they share: "To be a kid means spending time with family. To be a kid means playing with friends. To be a kid means going to school and learning." After we read the book, children illustrated their own ideas of what it means to be a kid. Some examples included skiing with family and friends, going fishing, and building snow caves.
